This section of the website contains an inventory or database of 190 publications in relation to a literature review on Irish research on child protection.
The material was selected as part of an audit of literature on child protection in Ireland, commissioned by the CAAB and conducted by The Children’s Research Centre and the School of Social Work and Social Studies, Trinity College in Winter 2009 (for details see ‘Background Information’ below). The focus is publications produced from 1990 to 2009. Details of relevant websites and journals are also provided where applicable. Included in the database is an audit of the 190 documents, see the report ‘Audit of Child Protection Research in Ireland 1990-2009’ published by the CAAB.
Key to categories
The inventory listing can be accessed by searching under any or all of seven headings – primary subject area (type of abuse), sector, focus of research, type of publication, commissioning body / publisher, author and year. Once you click on your chosen publication you will then be directed to a short summary of topics covered, type of study and information sources, with the option to download / access the publication if it is available to download free of charge.
The publications are classified into the following subject areas or types of abuse:
- Physical abuse;
- Emotional/psychological abuse;
- Sexual abuse;
- Exposure to domestic violence;
- Cross subject.
In 2009 the CAAB commissioned a study to produce an audit of Irish child protection research literature. This database was produced from the material identified in the audit. The research was undertaken by a team from the Children’s Research Centre and the School of Social Work and Social Policy, University of Ireland, Trinity College, Dublin which included Dr. Helen Buckley, Carmel Corrigan and Liz Kerins. The research was overseen by the CAAB and it was independently peer reviewed.
